Support Groups and Partners

Supporting the whole patient means meeting their emotional needs as well as their physical ones. Even better: doing so is also shown to improve treatment outcomes. We work with providers to host groups where people can share personal experiences and feelings, chronic medical conditions, bereavement or caregiving. There is no cost to attend these groups, however, reservations are requested.

Are You Interested in Organizing a Support Group?

We support and fund new and existing cancer support groups of the following types:

  • Specific cancer type support groups (such as breast cancer support groups and prostate support groups)
  • Spanish language cancer support groups
  • Caregiver support groups
  • Grief and loss support groups
  • Nutrition and healthy lifestyle support groups
  • Young adult support groups
  • Therapeutic writing or creative arts support groups
  • Living with cancer support groups
  • Cancer survivor support groups

Cancer support groups are the living, breathing embodiment of the mission of the Cancer Help Center at the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation. Funding is available to groups that meet the following criteria:

  • They have a 501(c)(3) charitable organization status
  • They operate in and serve El Paso County, Texas
  • They create a proposal including meeting locations, dates and times; target audience; focus; methodologies; key objectives; and measures of success, then receive approval by the Center

They include the written acknowledgement “funded by the Cancer Help Center at the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation” on all related announcements, promotions, and materials

Funding is limited to $2,500 per support group and may be used for:

  • Honorariums for speakers and presenters
  • Refreshments
  • Materials and supplies
  • Meeting space costs

Faith-based organizations that welcome and serve all members of the community regardless of religious belief are also invited to apply.

To be considered for funding, email a proposal including meeting locations, dates and times; target audience; focus; methodologies; key objectives; and measures of success, and email it to us.
